What are you getting (if you hire Andy)?
I have 25 years experience in the IT industry, mostly designing and building screen based small systems. I've been building web sites since 1994 (ancient archaeology in web terms) and had a personal site since 1995. I spent two years (2000 and 2001) as the webmaster for a large consultancy, specialising in web based promotions to turn casual browsers into qualified leads. In that time I trod the uneasy line between innovative design and "corporate look and feel". Read a summary of my views about navigation.
I also have solid experience consulting for clients as diverse as air traffic control and mobile telecomms, in leading edge technologies, as well as seeing software projects through to the end of implementation – one software system is still in use after twenty years. Although I like clean and elegant designs, I certainly understand that specialist applications sometimes require specialist, and sometimes unconventional, solutions.
I have formal qualifications in SSADM, and ISO9001 software auditing. Whilst I'm not a "formal methods" geek, I do feel (in common with the other directors) that the application of design and QA techniques can yield significant improvements in the usability and robustness of systems.
I have a track record of admitting it when I don't have resources to do the job and of telling a client when I think something is wrong. I've delivered a 32 site software roll-out over an eighteen-month period with every milestone on time, on budget. The two may well be connected.
